About

You know you’re on a winner when 20% of delegates say a particular event was the best conference they’ve ever attended, and a further 57% say it was ‘excellent’.

The Why Merino? Conference was received with such fervor in 2010, with great speakers, highly-relevant topics, and fine-tuned, professional organisation combining to leave 97% of surveyed delegates keen to come again.

The Why Merino? Conference is hosted by agricultural public relations and marketing agency, Lawson Communications. Based in Central West NSW, Lawson Communications is owned by Amy Lawson, who has been involved in the Merino sheep industry her entire life. Lawson Communications has a series of associates who also have strong roots with the agriculture industry and in 2011, former The Land journalist, Shanna Rowlands, will be working alongside Amy at the Why Merino? Conference, to ensure another smooth and successful event.

The inaugural Why Merino? Conference, held at Dubbo, NSW, in August last year, attracted nearly 150 people from five states of Australia. They flew in from as far away as Western Australia to listen to a high calibre line-up of speakers – from five states and the United States - and be reminded about just why they are and should be involved in the Australian Merino industry.

The Why Merino? Conference not only attracted solid attendance from producers across the country but the media also jumped on board. The event was covered by ABVTV’s Landline, WIN Television News (Central West NSW), ABC Rural Radio (NSW Western Plains and the NSW Country Hour), Australian Farm Journal magazine, The Land newspaper, Western Magazine (rural insert newspaper, across Central NSW), and Dubbo Daily Liberal newspaper.

A post-conference delegate survey revealed that:

  • Delegates attended the conference because of the great speaker list, and the diversity of topics covered
  • 53% of delegates attended the conference partly because they recognise they need/want to change the direction of their business
  • 97% of respondents believed the conference demonstrated innovation in the Merino industry
  • 97% of respondents said attending the conference was of high value to their business.
